New Printer

We took back the DVD Recorder with much disappointment. Since the main purpose was to share memories we decided instead to get a nice photo printer. As you can tell by the gallery, we take a lot of pictures but we don’t usually print any of them.

After reading some reviews and talking to some people, I decided to buy the Canon I850. Amy, Mayah and I went to Best Buy to get it but we hit a road block - an Epson Rep. We started talking to this rep and we ended up walking out with the more feature ridden - read more expensive - Epson 925. We got it home and printed some pictures. They came out nice on individual 4×6 paper but we soon realized that the pictures had some weird colors. Mayah looked really pink and red. We decided to take it back and get the Canon I originally decided on.

Besides saving me about $100 vs the Epson, the I850 prints faster and better quality pictures. For about $0.40 a picture - ink and paper costs, we have photo quality pictures. How can I get photo quality pictures on a $149 printer at 40 cents per picture? My theory is that the photo industry reached a peak quality many years ago. This quality - photo quality - is what we all became used to. But now home printers have finally caught up.

If you compare this to buying rolls of film and getting them developed, the costs are very similar. I might save about ten cents per picture with my digital camera and printer. The quality is definitely the same. The biggest difference is that I don’t have to pay 40 cents for pictures I don’t want. I can print six of one and none of others. A very nice convenience.
