Ryan has an awesome post about the Reno/Vegas Rivalry in Football. I absolutely love this quote:
Reno, while a growing and bustling city in its own right, is a place that is everything that Las Vegas is not! The average Vegasite (pun intended) couldn’t tell you where Elko is on a map, while the average Renoite couldn’t tell you a thing about collagen shots!

Those of us who travel frequently for work or pleasure will be happy to know there are two new flights to LA. Delta will have an 8:50 AM and a 7:55 PM. The early flight then continues to La Paz, Mexico.

They guys from Revision3 are launching a new TV station that will be available through many channels but probably not over traditional TV. Here is a quote from Wired
The aim of Revision3 is to improve upon the traditional cable television model by delivering original programming to not just the television (via set-top boxes), but all platforms, including desktop PCs and mobile devices.
A few of us at Twelve Horses were invited to the unveiling tonight in San Francisco. Dave and I actually had planned to go but work got in the way. You may remember that Twelve Horses brought a live taping of Diggnation to the Silver Legacy. Good luck tonight guys and we look forward to Digg Reno 2.0.

In case you missed it, the RenoDiscontent.com blog was featured on CNN regarding a post on gas price conspiracy. They showed a screenshot of the homepage and quoted from a commentor, Jack Wood, on the post. One awesome point about this is that the original post was it’s only 11 words. 11 little words garnered national press coverage. Amazing!

The Reno hospital Washoe Medical Center has changed its name to Renown Health. The main hospital on Mill Street will be called, “Renown Regional Medical Center.” The hospital over on Double R, down the street from our offices, already has the new sign up and has removed all other references to Washoe Medical.
I’ve chatted with a few colleagues and no one seems too fond of the name. The new name seems like a fairly easy target to criticize. From what I’ve read, it doesn’t sound like Renown was the name of a large donor but an attempt to “reflect a renewed vision, drive and passion to deliver the very best of care for our community.”

For those who don’t know, I host a regular podcast with Robert Payne; its easily the best part of my job. We just posted two new episodes that I wanted to mention. The first is John Seelmeyer, the Managing Editor of the Northern Nevada Business Weekly, a local business paper. The second is Brian Krolicki, the Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor and the current Nevada State Treasurer.
Please give a listen, either through iTunes or from the actual site, and give me any feedback. What could we doing better? What do you like? Who should we interview next?

Robb Smith makes some interesting points about why he believes the Republican’s will win the midterms (for those who don’t know, midterms are elections held between Presidential elections). I think Robb’s comments about the Democrats not being very optimistic or positive are right on. Its important for leaders to show that things will get better under their direction. If all they do is harp on the issues, problems and deficencies, they aren’t motivating people to get behind them.
