Washoe Medical is now Renown Health
The Reno hospital Washoe Medical Center has changed its name to Renown Health. The main hospital on Mill Street will be called, “Renown Regional Medical Center.” The hospital over on Double R, down the street from our offices, already has the new sign up and has removed all other references to Washoe Medical.
I’ve chatted with a few colleagues and no one seems too fond of the name. The new name seems like a fairly easy target to criticize. From what I’ve read, it doesn’t sound like Renown was the name of a large donor but an attempt to “reflect a renewed vision, drive and passion to deliver the very best of care for our community.”

Ha…. I was thinking that yesterday when leaving work… and I was thinking to myself “Renown, ha, thats fully, renown for what?”. We’ll see, I’m still happy my hospital is St. Marys. I do like the colors and the logo.

I will say that seeing the new colors and logo today when I was driving in did give the perception that the hospital was young and hip. I just wonder if young and hip is the right perception to give when dealing with people’s lives?

Well
thus is a choice that seems to me ,was not a wise one.
The name was “designed” that is to say, fabricated. it does not convey any ideas, just a corporate emptiness.
The name was purchased at a high price, with money that should belong to the community, but the moneys of washoe med apear to be spent as if they where not of the comunity but rether of the defacto owners, the suits.
If they asked anyone, the only heard whet they wanted to hear, because the common joe blow would rather have those funds spent on real needs, not corporate fanciness.

David,
Interesting point bringing up the cost to change the name.
