Daytona 500

I don’t follow NASCAR and have never been a fan, but I have to say that Sunday’s running of the Daytona 500 was exciting. My Grandpa came over in the morning so I ended up watching some of the pre-race show. There was a lot of excitement around Toyota competing with Ford, Dodge, and Chevy - American pride vs. foreign ingenuity. Plus, they showed tons of exciting highlights and made it look fun to watch.

So I did. And it was fun. I’m not a huge car guy, but it was interesting to see the drafting techniques used and watch how the good drivers could go from the front of the race to the back and then to the front again while the mediocre (can anyone who drives professionally be called mediocre) couldn’t budge themselves from the middle of the pack.

And if you like to watch Hockey for the fights, you’ll love to watch NASCAR for the crashes. I was shocked at how many accidents occurred in the race. I was disappointed to see Tony Stewart crash after his fantastic return to first but the ending was spectacular.

I don’t think I’ll rush out and by some drivers licensed shirt, but if the opportunity arises to catch another race on TV, I probably will.
