We’re Leaving Reno

It’s official. Amy has accepted a job as the head of research for a new center for Autism in Phoenix, Arizona. She will be employed by the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) which is one of the largest organizations in the world for the treatment of Autism. It’s a great opportunity for her and one we couldn’t pass up.

She will graduate with her PhD in May and start work in June. This means we are moving during the last week of May/first week of June.

I will stay on with Twelve Horses in business development. Being in Phoenix will gives me an opportunity to open a new office for Twelve Horse. The Phoenix metro area - which includes cities like Scottsdale, Tucson, Glendale, and many others - has a population of around 3.8 million. With close to 10 times the population of the Reno area, my plan is to grow business hand over fist. I will also be even closer to Las Vegas allowing me to better help grow business there.

We are still in the process of selling our house which could be a sticky point. It won’t affect us leaving but could severely affect our cash flow.

We are all very excited.

Too Busy to Keep Up

I haven’t been posting very regularly but it’s a good thing. I’ve been so busy with other things, that I can barely keep up. Here’s a small update:

  • Interviewed Steve Fine of the RGJ.com on the Horse Power Podcast
Not only was it a great conversation, but it was the first podcast I edited using GarageBand on the nifty new MacBook Pro that Twelve Horses supplied me with. I think the audio quality is noticeably better.
  • Implemented a memory book for Deux Gros Nez.
I did this personally using Wordpress. I think it came out nice and didn’t take much time.
  • DisneyFrontier.com is going gang busters.
This is my hobby site. I’m listed third (most days) on Google for the search term Disney Blog. My page rank has increase to three. My alex rating is hovering around 500,000 (this is decent but could be better). And my traffic is reflecting it.
    DisneyFrontier Traffic Stats
  • Vacation next week. We are heading to Disneyland for a few days as a Christmas present.
  • I’ve been getting clients blogging left and right. I’ve done two Wordpress trainings in the last three days and have two more next week.

Things are definitely cooking at Twelve Horses, DisneyFrontier.com and home. I just hope I can keep up.

P.S. It’s tough to be happy right now with the news of James Kim. The pictures of his young family are saddening and hearing all his colleagues moved to tears on various videos and podcasts has been heart breaking. I’ve been a fan of his since his TechTV days. Luckily his two daughters and wife survived. If you feel generous this season, please give a little to help his family.

Congrats Amy!

From Concourse C at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago:

Yesterday, Amy successfully defended her third and final comprehensive exam on her way to her long awaited Ph.D.  She need only to finish and defend her Thesis paper and she will graduate in December.  The amount of work and effort that Amy has put into this degree is indescribable here but feel free to ask her about it sometime.

On another note, I have been plane hopping for the last two days on my way to Rochester, NY and now back.  Flying in and out of airports leaves me feeling like a tourist trapped on a bus driving around Yosemite (a reference to something John Muir once wrote).  Exciting and interesting cities but I only get a small aerial glimpse.  Along those lines:

New Tattoo

My TattooSo, you may remember that when Mayah turned one, I got a tattoo of a lion. This was because the first thing she learned was to roar like a lion. On Saturday, I got a new tattoo. This time it was for Tyler and its a car. Tyler’s first thing was saying vroom when playing with cars. This one actually has his name on it too. Dave Pennell, Emma’s Dad, did the art work and did an awesome job too. I was worried about doing a car that was too real because I’m not much of a car guy. Thanks a ton Dave!
