Big Ups Arlington Avenue

I guess the folks at Reno 911 created Proud of Reno rap. It’s pretty funny.

Update on Apple Store Robbery

Back on November 13th, the Reno Apple store was robbed by two 17 year old boys. They ended up with about $7,000 in computers and iPods before being caught just three days later. The whole thing was stupid kids doing stupid things (I’ve been guilty of this, although not to this level). Well, it just got stupider. One of the boys took it upon himself to comment on my previous blog posts.

“no we got an idea to go do it we looked at it for 30 minutes and we would have never been caught if it wernt for a friend of ours turned us in cause aparently she wanted a reward so she could get her fix. so i wouldnt say she is my friend.”

Apparently, the biggest take away was that their friend turned them in. On the next post, he left this comment:

“yes we got cought and yes they took the stuf back moron duh!”

Hilarious. This was in response to Ryan Jerz’s comment:

“I wonder if they recovered the stuff. Couple of morons.”

Again, no remorse. Instead, he takes the opportunity to make fun of Ryan. I think this kid has an excellent future in a penitentiary somewhere.

The Loss of Dean Campbell

It is with a very heavy heart that I note the death of Cole Campbell today. I had several opportunities to get to know Cole and thought he was a great person. My heart goes out to his family and everyone at the Journalism school.

US 395: The Parking Lot

I left work last night at around 5:30 PM. My house is approximately 18 miles north of our office. About 3 hours later, I walked in the front door. It took an hour just to go from North of the spaghetti bowl to the Clear Acre off ramp. I’m not blaming the drivers for having a hard time driving on a sheet of ice. I’m not blaming Mother Nature for giving us some much need snow. I just wanted to share.

Here’s an RGJ Story about the nightmare.

Lunch with Mr. Jerz and Teaching at the University

Today, I met Ryan for lunch at the Record Street Cafe located just off of Evans street.  It was the first time I had been there and the food was pretty good.  It was around 11:30 and the place was empty.  I’m not sure how crowded it gets on a regular week day but the place was cool.

It was great to geek out with Ryan for a bit on blogging and podcasting. We discussed the pros and cons of Wordpress, Drupal, Text Pattern and Blogger. In the “small city” category, I found out that Ryan used to live on the same street that I live on now. He actually recognized the neighborhood from some of my Flickr photos. (By the way, Ryan released a new episode of his podcast in which he interviewed mayoral candidate Erik Holland).

After lunch, we headed to the Journalism school.  As I mentioned on the Twelve Horses blog, I was invited by Bourne Morris to present to her copy writing class about all things Internet.  I thought the conversation was fruitful and I hope I was able to impart some of my experiences on the class. Besides writing for the web, we discussed making money online, content publishing and search optimization.

On the way back to the office, I took some photos of the new Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center construction.

Two New Podcasts

Robert and I just finished two new podcasts. Paula Lee Hobson from TMCC and David Bobzien who is running for Nevada Assembly District 24. They are both very passionate about what they do and I think both discussions turned out very good.
